les cimetières de paris (2015) - Work in Progress.
Filmed in June 2015, originally compiled for my In Plain Sight exhibition at the North Down Museum, Bangor NI in May 2016.
Inspired by history, genealogy, silent cinema and travelogues the film bridges my still and moving image practice whilst allowing a contemplation on the fragility of the human condition.
For the most part the highlighted graves found in the Paris Cemeteries are filmmakers (including Alain Resnais, Jacques Demy, Man Ray, Eric Rohmer, Chris Marker), along with a smattering of other literary figures including Jim Morrison of The Doors, and fellow Irishmen Samuel Beckett and Oscar Wilde.
This is at present a work in progress - I've left the diagetic sound in for this edit. The version prepared for the gallery was completely silent. I'm hoping to add an artificial soundscape in due course.
